VISITING A CHRISTMAS MARKET: THE MAKE-UP EDIT
There is just something about Christmas time in Germany; with plenty of opportunities to snack on a delicious array of biscuits, Stollen and grilled goodies, while sipping on steaming hot Gluehwein (mulled to you and me). I just love that feeling the cities have, when the golden Christmas lights are on, the markets are lined with fir trees, and the waft of gently bubbling Crimbo spices tickle the nostrils. Within the first week of December, I have already been to two! An organised blogger would have taken lots of twinkling pictures, but all I managed were a few selfies with friends (who wouldn't appreciate making their blog debut), so there we are, you will just have to imagine the maze of wooden huts that twist around Mannheim's largest landmark, the water tower, before I get down to business and let you into my go-to make-up look for a good ol' Christmas market.
Needless to say, you will have noticed my obsession with EVERYTHING berry at the moment, to the point where I am not even in my standard black winter coat. So it is probably equally unsurprising that I built this look around the No.7 High Shine Lip Crayon in Berry. It doesn't have the best staying power, so I tend to carry it in my pocket for top-ups, but it does leave a bit of a stain, so you don't end up with that disappearing circle of colour in the middle of one's mouth from eating and drinking.
I started with my base, and being so excited about leaving the house, I decided to go all in and put on my Rimmel Fix & Protect Pro Primer in the shade 002 before my No.7 Stay Perfect Foundation in Cool Vanilla. These were mainly chosen as I can slap them on with my hands, and they blend in really easily. The foundation isn't actually my favourite (hello Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk), but I tend to use this one, when I am basically going out into the elements. For concealer I went to my trusty Collection Lasting Perfection concealer in cool medium for under my eyes, and my MAC Studio Finish concealer in NW20 for over my lids to help even out how dark they look from newborn-induced sleep deprivation. I then did a little bit of contouring with the NYX Powder Blush in Taupe, brightened up my cheeks with the No.7 Natural Blush Tint Powder in Soft Damson, and then sealed it all in with my trusty Rimmel Stay Matte Long Lasting Pressed Powder in 001.
Then I did my lips using the crayon, which goes against most people's make-up application advice. For me, I find it easier to choose my lip-colour and apply it before searching out my eyeshadow shades.
Now this is the point, where it might get frustrating for a lot of you, as I used my Lorac Pro Eyeshadow Palette, which isn't even available to be delivered to the UK, or Europe. I managed to convince a very good friend of mine to drive to an Ulta in California, while she was on holiday to pick me up one, so unless you fancy a trip to the States, keep your ears peeled for anyone you know who can do the same for you. It is definitely worth the begging you might have to do.*
*In searching for a link to the palette, I have now also got a serious case of make-up envy, as there is a Lorac Pro mega palette available. I will be massively grovelling to my friend, should she head stateside any time next year!
Anyhoo, that aside, I used Champagne over the whole lid, Lt. Bronze over the outer third and then used the amazing russet red shade Garnet as an accent V, and under my lash line. I am investigating some of the new H&M shades to see if they have anything like these, so if they do, I will update the post with the information. A quick eyelash curl and coating of Loreal's Waterproof False Lash Flutter mascara and I was good to go. No time for eyebrows or eyeliner today, as I had arranged to meet someone, but had been delayed by biscuit baking, while baby-watching. I was amazed I managed to apply this much!
So if you find yourself reaching for a berry lip, or are heading out to a Christmas market, I hope my look can give you some inspiration. And if you DO happen to live/or are going to the USA any time soon and fancy hooking me up with the mega-palette, I could definitely send you some biscuits.
